Annual Conference 2020: Agenda; Worship to be broadcast live on Sunday

As most of you know, AC2020 is being held on August 1 & 2, so please be aware of a few changes and differences this year.

Our District Superintendent Rick Swearengin advises:  “By now, you have most likely received information concerning the special session of annual conference to be held on Saturday, August 1st. If you are attending in person you have (or should have) received an agenda. When we last met (ZOOM meeting) we discussed the limited agenda. It may not surprise you to know that the schedule has changed again.

Instead of everyone meeting from 1-4 on Saturday the session will be split into two sessions. Some of those who are scheduled to meet in person will receive some communication from my office shortly stating that they will need to attend a different time. Here is the plan…

*The annual conference session will be split into two identical sessions. The first will begin at 1pm and the second will begin at 3pm. Both will be live streamed. There will be no amendments nor discussion. The session will last an hour (the goal being no longer than an hour and fifteen minutes) Everyone must exit promptly in order to sanitize.

*The Annual Conference will reconvene at 5pm (invitation only for in person) and it will also be livestreamed. During this session Bishop Sandra Steiner Ball will share with us and will be using this time for the celebratory matters that were scheduled originally for the 1pm session. This session will be replayed on Sunday morning.

*The ordination service (and baptism) on Sunday morning will begin at 10am. Again, this is by invitation only and will be live streamed.

*** Please note!!!! No one wishing to enter the Wesleyan Chapel without their credentials that were recently sent in the mail will be allowed to enter. If you know of any one who may want to attend, or who may be planning on attending, please make them aware of this.

*If you have informed the conference of your plans to attend in person, but wish to watch by live stream, you may still do so.”

Also,

On Sunday Morning August 2, 2020 at 10 a.m, worship will be livestreamed from Wesley Chapel on the campus of WV Wesleyan College.    Join livestream www.wvumc.org

All congregations are invited to connect to the livestream and use this service for their Sunday Service.    The Bishop will be celebrate a baptism, ordain a Deacon and an Elder, with family members and a few representatives of the Board of Ordained Ministry and conference leadership present.  Worship celebrations of Commissioning and additional Ordinations will take place at a later date in local settings.

“Our generosity toward the 2020 Annual Conference offering will benefit three recipient areas of ministry: The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR); Spring Heights DaySpring Camps; and Student Financial Support for Theological Education in the West Virginia Conference. Your giving is encouraged to be made online through the conference’s online giving site. A link to the site will be provided and available on August 1, 2020. All other giving for the Annual Conference offering should be made through your local church by designating the donation to “2020 Annual Conference Offering.” Your local church will then remit all donations through its regular process to the Conference Treasurer’s Office to be distributed to the offering recipients. Both giving options will be available until the end of August.” (from Bishop Steiner Ball)

Please share with your congregations.  Thank you
